Zachary and his elder brother, John, were soldiers in the King Phillip War, in 1676 receiving grants of land for their services.  Zachary became Lieutenant of the Militia.  In 1679 Zachary married Martha, the daughter of Walter Woodworth.  It was from this same ancestor that descended Samuel Woodworth of the "Old Oaken Bucket" fame.  The first mention of Walter Woodworth was in 1635 and he with others probably came from England with the Reverence John Lothrop who became the settled minister at Scituate.
